24-track Recording

The goal is simple:  To provide the highest quality 24-bit digital recording, mixing, editing and mastering as well as short-run CD-R duplication with graphic design and packaging, all under one roof.  Owner/engineer, Patrick Ogelvie, who holds a degree in audio recording engineering from the Indiana University School of Music, personally oversees each and every project from start to finish for the highest possible quality control.

We place great importance on creating a comfortable atmosphere dedicated to the complete comfort of the performers.  Musicians and voice artists across every imaginable genre have found the cosy confines of our studio very conducive to intimate, nuanced performances - big enough to comfortably accommodate full-band, live performances - small enough to feel homey.  All these factors combined ensure a recording with the feel, spontanaeity and detail of a live ensemble performance, and in record time!

THE STUDIO
The heart of the studio is a Mackie 24-bit 24-track hard disk recorder (12 tracks at 88.2/96kHz sampling rate) directly connected to a Mackie 2408 analogue mixing desk.  Other equipment includes microphones by AKG, Crown, Shure and Joe Meek; outboard gear by Lexicon, dbx, Bellari, Sennheiser, AKG, Digitech, Symetrix, BBE, Alesis, Yamaha, Tascam, Philips and M-Audio; software by Sony, Steinberg, Focusrite, Antares, SSL, Adobe, Waves, Bias, Reason, Diamond Cut and Minnetonka; and the TC Electronic Finalizer hardware mastering system.

The recording room features Auralex acoustic treatments, a 36-inch air cavity with sound absorption materials between the acoustic tile drop ceiling and the metal roof, a Kimball baby grand piano (specially-prepared for recording), two vintage synthesisers (Korg DW-8000 and Roland D-50, with a host of extra sound cards for the latter and a Proteus One module for either), an easily-moveable vocal booth and a host of assorted small percussion and wind instruments.

In addition to recording and mastering, Flux also offers an extensive range of other audio-related services:  Short run CD-R duplication, converting recordings on obsolete formats to CD-R with noise reduction , short run cassette duplication and conversion between current formats, just to name a few.

SHORT-RUN CD-R DUPLICATION
Whether you need 1, 100 or up to 300 copies, our short-run CD-R duplication service is the way to go.  Our duplication system can handle a wide range of CD formats including CD-DA (standard digital audio CDs), Mixed-Mode, ISO-9660, Hybrid, CD-ROM (Mode 1 or 2), CD-Interactive, CD-ROM XA (Form 1 or 2), Video-CD, Super Video-CD, MP3-CD, HFS, UFS, CD-Extra, CD-Plus and Enhanced-CD (Audio + CD-ROM content) with capacities up to 700MB (data) or 79 minutes and 45 seconds (audio), making it the ideal choice when promoting a recording project or distributing software on a limited basis.

All our duplication packages also feature full-colour direct-on-disc printing (no sticky, paper labels).  Plus, we can also do the paper printing - both tray cards and four-panel inserts - also in full colour.  Whether submitted in finished form in virtually any format or created from scratch in-house, we'll get the graphics just right and even stuff the artwork into the boxes!

TRANSFERS
It may seem that everything ever recorded would be readily available on CD by now.  In fact, the vast majority of recordings made since 1877 have yet to see release on compact disc, not to mention homemade recordings dating back to the 1930s.  We can accurately transfer any recording from virtually any format to CD.   Transfers also include noise reduction - removing extraneous sounds like clicks, pops, ticks, rumble, hiss and buzz from the original recording - and re-mastering - equalization, compression and other treatments tastefully applied from a purist's perspective to improve the sound quality as much as possible while still retaining the atmosphere, feel and balance of the original recording.  Transfers of commercially available recordings also include miniature full-colour reproductions of the original artwork for the CD box insert and tray liner.

Depending on the nature of your project (duplication or transfer), your source material may be on any of a number of formats.  We can accept any of the following:  CD-R, CD-RW, R-DAT, MiniDisc (stereo or mono), 1/4“ open reel analogue (any size reel, any speed, any track configuration, no Dolby A - includes 1/4" cassette and Grundig cartridges), 1/8" cassette (any type - including microcassette; any but preferably no noise reduction), PCM F1 (on Betamax or VHS tape), vinyl records (any size or speed - no cylinders), CD-ROM/DVD-ROM (containing audio files), videotape (VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Betamax, 8mm, Hi-8, Digital 8 or MiniDV), mass storage (hard drives, flash drives, any memory card) or even 8-track cartridge (stereo or quad)!
